Who is Matière?

Matière S.A. was set up in 1932 by Louis Matière in Aurillac, Cantal in central France. The company installed water pipes for civic projects such as storm water drains, sewage etc. Since inception, Matière has installed over 45,000 kilometres of different kinds of pipe.

Currently Matière is still a private family-run company and still based in Aurillac. Activities have evolved over the years and the firm is now a civil engineering and contracting firm specialising in structural design.

It operates as developer, designer and contractor for the installation of proprietary precast concrete buried structures, MODULARCH® and OPTI-CADRE®, in France and southern Europe.

In 1995 the Metallic Bridge Construction Division, with UNIBRIDGE® products, was added to satisfy the need for very large bridge structures, and medium size metal structures.

At present, the activities of the Matière Company are:

• 10% earthmoving
• 10% water and sewage pipes
• 40% concrete works
• 40% steel works

Over the years a large network of licensees and agents has been created in over 20 different countries around the world. Matière has built over 9,000 structures since 1983, with around 25% outside France.
